Hawaiian Halloween

Tiffany McDonald (one of our students) made these cute Hawaiian Jack-o'-lanterns.  The only trick-or-treaters we got over here in our upstairs apartment was Kianu and Woolley, the cute little guys who live downstairs.

Autumn: October in Hawaii has gone by quickly and beautiful as always, though without the color of autumn.  I'm thinking of all the beautiful colors back home and the pumpkins and crisp autumn air. There is such beauty in every season. I always hope for a long fresh bird singing spring and a long colorful crisp Autumn. Summer & winter are too often selfish robbers of time.

Ha ha

We went to the library for FHE tonight to look in archived school newspapers for anything that might be about Chris's Mom or Dad from back when they lived here in the 60's.

I got a chuckle out of students gathered around this digital fireplace in the highly air-conditioned library.

Weekend at Manoa Falls

After many evening hours at the PCC doing surveys the last few weeks, we decided to go on an outing to the Manoa Waterfall and Arboretum.

Can you see Chris? :)  (We didn't go swimming)

Aaahhhh....can't we make this in our backyard!

steps going down into more garden

Chris's Fitbit said we got 20,000 steps yesterday!  I guess that’s why we are both hurting so much today.  I don’t count steps anymore, I just keep walking.

Surprise visit

Elder & Sister Cook are in town!  What a wonderful surprise!
They came by while Chris was teaching some ukulele lessons
in the Mission Settlement at the PCC.  We worked with Elder Cook
in the Africa SE Area Mission.  We love them and were excited
to hear them both speak at a Stake Conference here in Laie.
A sweet lady makes these pretty flower arrangement
for the bathrooms every morning!

Conference Sunday

I love General Conference!
How blessed to have the Apostles of the Lord come into our homes twice a year for general conference.  I have felt so inspired and have treasured these two days of their presence in our home.  I look forward to studying the Lord's messages and applying them in my life.

My mom makes the best lasagna in the world and now I make it too! :)
We are having a senior couple potluck tonight and we got assigned main dish for 15 people so Chris wanted me to make Mom's lasagna.  We stopped at Foodland after our Luau assignment last night to pick up the ingredients, including a foil pan, and it all ended up costing about $35.00!  Yes, Island life is not easy sometimes.
